Benefits of this program include cardiovascular fitness, strength training, flexibility, balance, and coordination with an emphasis on improving mobility, independence and quality of life. Instructors will design and implement individualized exercise programs for all students.  Personal fitness goals will be evaluated periodically. The students give one another support, encouragement, and friendship.

Generous Grants and Partnerships

The Adaptive Physical Education program began in 1989 and was originally sponsored through Cañada College. In 2010 with the generous support from the Sequoia Healthcare District the program expanded its services to the community. It is the mission of the Sequoia Healthcare District to continue to provide health and fitness services to the local community.

Veterans Memorial Senior Center (VMSC)

The Veterans Memorial Senior Center has ge
nerously provided us with use of classroom space located in the Community Wellness Building for over 20 years and will continue to do so. Without the generous support of the Redwood City Parks and Recreation Department/VMSC this program would not be able to provide these valuable services to local residents.

We have recently received additional support from the following organizations:

Kaiser Permanente—Community Benefit Grant

Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF)—Community Benefit Grant

Danford Foundation
