    The Adaptive Physical Education program began in 1989 and was originally sponsored through Cañada College. We are committed to our community - come join us for strength training, yoga, and more to improve your fitness!

  • Parkinsons’ Chair Exercise - On Mondays, Katie Parafinczuk, DPT, will again be offering a FREE Parkinson’s Chair Exercise Class--in person and on Zoom--starting at 3:00 p.m.  The first 15 minutes are on aerobic machines (in-person only) and then 3:15-4pm with exercise in the chair (and on the webcam). The class will encompass seated and standing exercises for flexibility, strength and balance.  Criteria: able to stand from a chair (with assistance of a walker/cane or caregiver ok); can balance sitting in a chair without help; has blood pressure well managed.  More information:  (650) 368-7732

    The generous support of The Parkinson's Foundation allows us to offer these courses FREE OF CHARGE!  We are now recruiting participants, so if you have Parkinson's, or know someone who does, please refer them to us.  You may call for more information: (650) 368-7732; email us.

    Gait Improvement Class (In-person classes with a Zoom option)
    **Date/Time: Mondays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. Location: Redwood City Armory
    **Description: Focus on movements and techniques for improving stride length as well as tempo and stability. Attention will also focus on foot an hip function and the role they play in movement quality. We will also review movement patterns with activities contributing to gait which would include sit-to-stand, ground-to-stand, upper extremity activities, and posture. We will identify which muscles are firing or not at appropriate times during the gait cycle. The secondary goal of the class is to be able to multi-task with these movements.

    Mobility and Stretching Class (In-person classes with a Zoom option)
    **Date/Time: Thursday, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Location:  Redwood City Armory
    **Description: Class will emphasize breathing, joint function, mobility, range-of-motion. Special focus on trunk, spinal mobility and hamstring flexibility which plays a vital role in hip extension—a key element of efficient walking. The ultimate goal is to empower students to self-evaluate regularly to address their bodies’ needs.

  • For those of you who wish to continue exercising indoors, in the comfort of your home, this is the perfect time to sign up for our Digital Membership!

    For a modest fee of $45 per month, you will have access to any and all Zoom classes offered by us during the month, as well as unlimited access to our YouTube library, comprising almost 100 videos. You will be asked to register one time on-line for the Zoom classes. The Zoom classes are live in real time, but the YouTube classes can be viewed at any time. We now have two Zoom classes for people with Parkinson's that will remain free of charge.
